Introducing our Minangkabau Beef Rendang by Roastdfunkd, a family recipe since 1975, when I was barely a tod in Banting town, Selangor - being a baba (and yes, both sides of the family are Peranakan), we do love our Malay food, occasionally dining with fingers; it’s in the DNA. As you’d know, this is a slow-cooked (after deep marination), yes, lovingly, of beef cuts in a mix of lemongrass, kunyit leaves, roasted coriander, desiccated coconut, coconut cream, chilli, some secret ingredients… etc. - needless to say, those who know, it’s a labour of LOVE. It’s finished off with a garnish of julienned kafir lime leaves & desiccated coconut shavings. It’s very mildly spicy, though; do have enough rice ready! Or that banana leaf and you may find yourself dining with your fingers…
These 350g vacuum-sealed packs are ready to be consumed; just reheat them for a minute in a preheated air fryer or oven at 150 degrees - the microwave is easiest at 45 seconds.
Next available is a pork belly rendang version that will be on offer. Back in the day, my 5th granduncle would deliver fresh chunks of wild boar meat after culling the oil palm estates of them, being the only amateur shooter licensed by the Sultan then in the state of Selangor - if one hasn’t tried that type of rendang, one hasn’t lived… unreal! The tested batch of Pork Belly Rendang is amazing with that richness of flavour and spice coupled with that pork fat umami…say no more, huh.
A must-try!
